In The Telephone, Accawi remembers the things he loved best about village life. It was not meant to last, however, and the beginning of the end is symbolized by the installation of the town's first telephone. Before the telephone, people couldn't communicate over long distances, which made their world quite small. The ability to talk to people not only in Jordan, but around the world, changed the village, which became part of a global economy and society.
