Who is The Child from Teaching a Stone to Talk and what is their importance?

The child is a nine-year-old girl who accompanies Annie to the cottage in the Appalachian Mountains in the essay "Aces and Eights". It is not clear what the child's name is or what relationship the girl is to Annie, just that she has sometimes lived with Annie and sometimes not.
