Sears, Blaine, Ned, Joe from Tales of Ordinary Madness are all inmates in the prison with the narrator. The author writes them as more animal than human, either preying on the weaker inmates, using their ugliness as a deterrant, or posioning others. The only one that gets a pass from this menagerie is Joe.
