Hazel is one of the boys that lives in the Palace Flophouse which he named. Hazel fights in the war and takes advantage of the G.I. Bill when he gets out.
Although he is not very bright and spends most of his time being confused, Hazel enrolls in the University to study astrophysics. Unfortunately, the university finds out that he only got into the program because he put a check on his application and kicks him out. Hazel has his horoscope read by Fauna and she tells him that he is going to be President of the United States. Hazel is terrified but after coming to terms with the fact that he cannot do anything to change his destiny he decides to embrace his future as president and prepare himself by listening, becoming aware of what is going on around him, and reading books. Hazel is a loyal friend to Doc and is willing to do anything to help.When Hazel is made to believe he is the future President he takes it upon himself to solve Doc's problem to get him back to normal and proves to be smart after all.
