Who is Lord Alvin Mangrim from Swan Song and what is their importance?

Lord Alvin Mangrim is a former mental institution patient who is good with machines. He imposes a game of Straightjacket on Josh, Swan, and Leona. He also brings Franklin Hayes's head to Macklin to become part of the Army of Excellence and is eventually killed by Paul Thorson.
