What are the motifs in Surfacing by Margaret Atwood?

Sexuality is a recurring idea. It is significant in the novel, and the main four characters are expressive of their sexuality throughout the story. However, the male characters, and particularly David, are sexually aggressive towards the women and in general, and the female characters seem to be more passive, Anna more so than the narrator.
