How does the author use foreshadowing in Six Plays?

In Hellman's play, Watch on the Rhine, David's early description of his relationship to Sara foreshadows his actions later in the play when he offers his support for Sara and Kurt, an action which also shows him (like his mother) to have something more in him than initial impressions would suggest.
