Who is The Japanese Boy from Silk and what is their importance?

The Japanese boy leads Hervé Joncour to Hara Kei's village procession when he is lost amidst the burned ruins of the village. He is described as a joyous, young man, who dances and plays the flute. In the end, he is executed by Hara Kei for bringing Joncour to the campsite.
