How does the author use flashback in Silas Marner?

Eliot uses of flashback as a form of foreshadowing. In Chapter One, we are exposed to Marner's cataleptic fits, and are apprised of the way they have affected his life. Marner experiences betrayal, accusations, and loss because of these fits. These occurrences mirror what it to come.
