Jean Baptiste Charbonneau is Sacajawea and Toussaint's son. Born in early 1805, he enters this world just a few short weeks before his parents join Lewis and Clark on the Corps of Discovery expedition. William Clark renames, or nicknames, the infant, Pomp or Little Pompy. Jean spends the first year of is life traveling with the Corps of Discovery. Clark forms a strong paternal bond with him.
