O'Casey places several clues that foreshadow Ayamonn's death. These include references to Mullcanny, who many people predict will get into trouble if he does not stop talking about evolution. Mrs. Breydon notes, "he'll meet with a mishap, some day, if he doesn't keep his mouth shut." Eeada also warns: "The fella that's gone'll have a rough end, jeerin' things sacred to our feelin.'"
