Pride and Prejudice is set in England at around the turn of the century (1900's). Austen, herself, lived and wrote during a time period in history called the Regency period. This was the century that saw the end to the feudal system, the age of Enlightenment happen, as well as the French Revolution. So, while the actual setting is the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th, many of the customs that Austen writes about had been indicative of the previous era. Most of the action takes place in the one village, and mostly in various estates.
