In the novel, PRide and Predjudice, the tone is clearly one of satirical humor. She is laughing at the nonsense that her characters become so embroiled in. Her narrator keeps a distrance and functions as an observer, much like a town gossip might. She uses humor and contrived situations to allow the themes to bubble to the surface.
