When Lydia runs off with Mr. Wickham, Jane leaves some letters for Elizabeth to find. Upon learning about Lydia and Mr. Wickham she is immediately afraid for both her sister and her family. Both the reputation of the family and Lydia's reputation as a woman are in jeopardy if Mr. Wickham does not marry Lydia. She is also feeling extremely guilty over the fact that she didn't 'out' Mr. Wickham when she had the chance.
