Devine callin is a theme in this story. Richardson strives to express his feeling of divine calling to his work in Netherlands New Guinea. Richardson completes three years of study in Bible College before feeling a calling to the missionary work. Up to that point, he attended with faith that God would guide him to his future calling. Richardson credits his feeling of calling with his ability to put up with the challenges of life in the jungle and stay on the mission field longer than many other men.
