In the text, O'Rourke suggests that America's government now reflects the same kind of tyranny that compelled the American colonies to secede from England. Similar to the way that George III refused to assent to the rule of law, today's Congress won't amend the Constitution to require a balanced budget. Just as George III interfered with laws for naturalization, so does the U.S. immigration policy. Just as George the III interfered with foreign trade, the U.S. imposes trade quotas and tariffs. In comparing the U.S. government to the monarchy of King George III, Americans are symbolically placed in the role of potential revolutionaries.
