Claude Blanchot was the steward of the waiters at the Balzar restaurant. As such, he was the official spokesman, and attended meetings of the friends of the restaurant who were trying to protect it from change by the new owner. Claude was a dignified and circumspect man who became a little pleading as things got bad for the waiters at the Balzar, and whose speeches became rather long-winded.
