Paper Towns begins with a prologue, in which we learn that everyone gets to experience one miracle in their lives. The author's miracle is his friendship with Margo Roth Spiegelman, someone he's known since he was a toddler and always had a crush on. Q then described one of his last memories with Margo, during which they found a dead man in a park. Q wanted to report the man. Margo, however, wanted to investigate. Margo later learned the dead man's name was Robert Joyner. Joyner was a lawyer, and he'd taken his own life. Q then notes how much Margo loved mysteries, so much so that she turned herself into one.
