Intimidation is a recurring idea in the book. Mormonism, as described in Judy Robertson's book, "Out of Mormonism," is rife with secrecy, long and exotic rituals and laws and rules that cannot be questioned by church members. No one is allowed in a Mormon temple until he has first become a member and secondly passed a year of probation to make sure he is worthy of full membership. The endowment ceremony and the sealing ritual that take place for new Mormons together last some five hours. The new members must vow not to reveal anything that takes place in a Mormon temple and must agree to have their throats slit and their intestines disemboweled if they do so.
