Lady Marsden was Will's mother. Born into a wealthy family, she made her debut in Charleston in 1840. She was educated at St. Cecilia's Christian Finishing School in Richmond. In Falls, she lived in a seventy room house on the plantation called The Lilacs. Lady Marsen was severely burned when Sherman's troops burned The Lilacs.
