In the story's conclusion, the women cleanse the naked body of the dead man and wrap him in burial clothing, and act that is metaphorically linked to the Biblical description of Jesus following His crucifixion. This metaphorical connection is relaized in the final paragraph “At last it was finished”..... the final words spoken by Jesus on the cross.
