In addition to the simplicity of the language and the brevity of the lines, Neruda also uses beautiful visual imagery used by Neruda. The socks are first compared to the softness of rabbits. The sock-encased feet take on the qualities of "two fish made of wool" and "two long sharks sea-blue." Neruda also describes his feet as two blackbirds and two cannons, both descriptions that leave no question as to the intended visual image.
