Morality is a recurring idea. Odd was raised by a woman who suffers a mental disease. As a result, Odd was neglected and emotionally abused. Odd survived this treatment and has become a responsible member of society. Due to this childhood, Odd has grown up with a unique sense of morality. Odd recognizes more so than the average person what is right and wrong and how thin the line between them can be. Odd strives to do the right thing at all times, even when it means doing something that could place him in a dangerous or difficult position. It is because of his childhood and because of the abuse he suffered that Odd has such a strong sense of morality. It is also because of this that Odd suffers a great deal of guilt when he is not able to stop something from happening.
