Who is Black from My Name Is Red?

Black is the main character in the novel, My Name is Red. As a youth, Black falls in love with Shekure and is banished from Istanbul. He stays away from his home for twelve years. When Black returns to the city he loves, he is a tall, handsome, young man. Over the course of the novel, we see his relationship with Shekure blossom, as well as their eventual, happy marriage.
