In Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, the two characters Claudio and Hero have an interesting relationship. Claudio's feelings toward Hero are immature at best, and Shakespeare further emphasizes this by having a parallel relationship with Benedick and Beatrice, whose relationship is mature and serious. Claudio presumably falls in love with Hero the minute he meets her, but then can't even begin to fitgure out how to court her. Then, when he hears a rumor that she might like someone else, he backs off. There is no middle ground with Claudio. When he's in love....he's head over heels. And when he's angry and hating someone, he's dark and brooding.
