Moon Tiger is the refraction of an individual memory into several voices. It is a story based on the disjunction between event and narrative and is therefore a kind of reflection on perceptual relativism, or the idea that there are many legitimate narratives about a single event. Claudia does not deny the reality of the past. She does not claim there is no fact of the matter about what happened in such-and-such a place on such-and-such a day.
