Suicide is a recurring idea. At the beginning of Martin Amis' novel "Money," Amis includes an author's note that explains the novel is about the suicide of John Self, the main character. Amis explains that he does not know if that means John Self will be dead at the end of the novel, however. Throughout the novel, John Self begins to slowly spiral downward.
