How does the author use foreshadowing in Mind Prey?

In Chapter Eight, Andi and her daughter devise a plan to be sure Mail is not listening to them, proving she is still somewhat sane and fighting for her daughter's life if not her own. Andi knows Mail, knows what he is capable of, and is frightened for Grace. Andi is fighting back, foreshadowing a showdown between her and Mail.
