Who is Amanda Thripp from Matilda and what is their importance?

The first time Matilda witnesses a punishment from Miss Trunchbull, Amanda is her victim. Amanda has long hair braided into pigtails, something Miss Trunchbull hates. Thus, she picks Amanda up by the pigtails in question and throws her over the playground.
