Marigolds (short story)

Notice that in paragraph 9, the narrator uses foreshadowing. What is the effect of this hinting at the events to come?

The ninth paragraph is made up of dialogue:

“Hey, Lizabeth,” Joey yelled. He never talked when he could yell. “Hey, Lizabeth, let’s go somewhere.”

From this, we can infer that Joey is bored, and that he and Lizabeth are likely going to get into trouble.
