Who is Dr. Hale from March and what is their importance?

Dr. Hale is the physician in charge of Blank Hospital, where March recovers in Washington. When we first meet Dr. Hale, he comes off as a very brash man with a short fuse, but over time, after he learns of March's service, he warms to the family. While Hale is caring for March, he invites Marmee to stay in his home so she does not have to sleep in a boarding house. He also adopted Grace as a member of his household, rewarding her for her brilliant care of injured soldiers.
