When we meet Jimse, he is in the midst of beng teased by a group of Union soldiers. They offer him a pot of baked beans, which are contained in a scalding hot pot..... a pot that burns the child's hands. March takes the boy back to his cabin, and Jimse later becomes one of his best pupils. In the end, Jimsie is killed during the attack at Oak Landing.
