In Act I, Scene III, Hans, who is awaiting his son, asks Brother Weinand if "one bad monk" could get his entire order "liquidated." Brother Weinand replies that "the Church is bigger than those who are in her" and that there are those who have tried, unsuccessfully, to discredit it. This conversation, however, foreshadows what will, in fact, come to pass..... as Luther, one small voice in a very large world, will bring down the hegemony of the church.
