What is the author's style in Lioness Rampant by Tamora Pierce?

The point of view of this novel is subjective third-person with multiple viewpoints. The narrator generally follows Alanna, showing the world through her eyes and revealing her feelings. However, in a few sections the narrator instead follows a different character. In some parts of the book, Alanna is nowhere near, and the narrator instead follows George, Alex, or Jonathan. This viewpoint allows the author to tell the whole story as it happens, even as multiple important events take place at the same time in different places. This choice of viewpoint is interesting because it shows the world and events surrounding each focal character in turn, as well as their emotions, but does not provide an all knowing, bird's eye view of the story. Had the author chosen omniscient third-person point of view or bird's eye view, it would have been more difficult to maintain the suspense and keep from revealing crucial plot twists.
