Gus Lobrano was a college chum and fellow campus literati, he remains a part of E.B. White's life forever. He shares an apartment with White and some other Cornell graduates in New York while looking for work. Lobrano later becomes a fiction editor at the magazine, and White submits poetry and stories for his consideration. Lobrano visits the Whites at their farm in Maine and they exchange frequent letters.
