Who was the audience for the author in Letters from and American?

Letters From an American Farmer were exactly what the title infers..... letters from an American farmer. These letters were correspondence between two people, letters in which Jean de Crèvecoeur was sharing his experiences and American culture with an acqaintance who was curious about said experiences.
