Let the Circle Be Unbroken

What did Cassie mean when she said "a day like this perhaps would never come again"?

This was the day the verdict was coming down in T.J.'s trial and the children had been forbidden to go. Cassie, however, says that a whipping can only last so long, and T.J.'s trial would be a one time occurrence. Thus, the children all head for town and will face their parents' wrath when they return.
