Who is Botev from Last of the Breed and what is their importance?

Botev was one of the trappers from the village where Mack was staying. He assisted Mack in freeing Yakov from prison. Botev deceives Ostap into believing that he is helping him look for Mack, but he is actually looking for Yakov.
