In Chapters One and Two, while checking in to the hotel, Stevie and his dad run into a famous person associated with the final four. This foreshadows that over the time Stevie is there as a student reporter, he is going to meet a lot of famous basketball players, coaches, sports' reporters and more.

Also, we come to realize that although Stevie hates Duke, there is a sense of foreshadowing that he might end up liking Susan Carol anyway. First, Susan Carol's southern accent intrigues Stevie. Second, Dick Weiss, who is also a big hater of Duke, tells Stevie that he should read Susan Carol's essay--even though it is about Duke's coach, Coach K--because Susan Carol is a really good writer.
