In pages 29-45, the author uses foreshadowing for things to come, all while many details have yet to be understood. A very profound moment occurs when Ray is questioned about knowing so much about Amy and June's visitation schedule. Vic changes the subject, because he knows something the others don't. This piecemeal feeding of important story bits out of sequence forces the reader to constantly reexamine what has happened as they put the pieces together to make sense.
