Over the course of the novel, a number of famous woman are alluded to in the text. For the most part, these women are best known for their wickedness and finely tuned skills in manipulation. These women include Cleopatra, Eve (biblical), Semiramides (Queen of Babylonian), and Lucrezia Borgia, who was famous for poisoning her enemies.
