How does the author use foreshadowing in Katherine?

In Part IV, the fact that Phillipa is at an age to be married and is not vibrant, smart or beautiful foreshadows some trouble for her and for John in their future political dealings surrounding her marriage. Phillipa is devout and more suited for the church.
