One of the largest conflicts in Jane Eyre is that of social class (man versus society). Jane and Rochester both want to be in love with one another but due to the era in which they exist it is not acceptable. The vast majority of the book and the catalyst for the choices many of the characters make stem from their perseption of social class and appropriateness.
