Bronte offers a view of the role of women from many levels of social classes, and the impossible and strict regimen that they were expected to follow. The sole and lofty purpose of women was to produce children (hopefully male) and to maintain the home, support their husband's endeavors. To have a life of one's own, or even ambitions desires, or an occupation outside of this was considered unseemly. And, yet, here is Jane Eyre, breaking almost all of thes stereotypes.
