Into the Wild

In the novel "Into the wild", was it too selfish of chris to refuse to stay an extra two weeks to help wayne at the grain silo?

I think that Chris was actually pretty self-absorbed. Leaving Wayne Westerberg is just one of a number of examples where Chris is more concerned with his own journey than that of the people in his life. Chris's abandonment of those who care and rely on him is a motif through the story.
