Niobe is the Irish peasant girl who, as the prophecy, Parry learns, can cause his downfall. Niobe becomes an Aspect of Fate, countering Parry's evil on Earth wherever she can. Parry tries to have her killed and then wagers with her, asking for permission to marry Orb if Orb falls in love with him. Niobe agrees, and Parry is ready to give up his throne to be with Orb, but ultimately does not do so.
