Nineteenth-century Scottish mathematical physicist, James Clerk Maxwell, developed a set of equations expressing the basic laws of electricity and magnetism. These equations marked the most profound and fruitful change in physics since Newton. He also developed the Maxwell distribution in the kinetic theory of gases.
