The narrator appears in the story, Christmas Gives Meaning. He is a rich and materialistic, husband and father, who lives in an affluent suburb. The narrator takes pride in his ability to consume massive amounts of goods and food, and competes directly with his neighbor to make sure that he is the most extreme consumer on the block. The competition, however, becomes dangerous when the narrator decides to change his focus from gaining to giving.
