Who is Doug Cottingham from Holidays on Ice and what is their importance?

Doug Cottingham is the newest member of the neighborhood, and he wants to become the neighborhood alpha consumer. In order to do so, he has to supplant the narrator and his family. First, Doug expands his home, and then, once he realizes that charity is far more jealousy and awe-inducing in his neighbors' eyes, he gives away most of his material wealth and parts of his body.
