One major theme in the novel is individuality.... personal identity. This theme is illustrated through various characters, which include Paige's mother, who leaves her family because she believes she has lost identity; Nicholas, who puts aside his identity as husband and father to focus on his identification as a surgeon, and Paige..... who has no identity and is searching to fund herself.
